ABM Neuromovement®


The Anat Baniel Method (ABM) Neuromovement® is a unique and highly effective way to communicate to the brain through specific mindful, simple, intentional, gentle movements,  literally rewiring it, creating and re-organizing connections through Neuroplasticity.

Neuroplasticity or Brain Plasticity is the ability of the nervous system to change its activity in response to internal or external stimuli by re-organizing its structure, functions, or connections. 

ABM® movements can be used at any age to re-organize your brain to overcome pain, increase flexibility and strength,  improve balance, and reach higher levels of physical, emotional and cognitive performance.

I have witnessed how ABM Neuromovement® has changed in a significant positive way the lives of people with hemiplegia after a stroke, that did not improve or minimally improved with traditional rehabilitation therapies.

Children in the autism spectrum, after doing ABM® no  longer diagnosed  in the spectrum, children with ADHD, Sensory Processing disorder and Dyspraxia having frequent and strong emotional outburst unable to join sports, now calmer, more connected and able to join school sports teams, being happier. In other cases children with cerebral palsy unable to walk, now able to walk. Individuals with chronic low back pain, now with no pain or  minimal occasional discomfort. The list is long, as a Physician I continue to be gladly surprised by the changes that ABM Neuromovement® can bring to any individual. I have experienced the benefits of ABM® with my son and on myself after doing lessons during the ABM® training, which I do often to feel and function better.

Anat Baniel Method (ABM) Neuromovement®, shifts the focus from fixing to connecting helping children and parents de-stress, focus, and grow.  By focusing on the brain’s natural plasticity ABM Neuromovement® avoids imposing, fixing and correcting methods.  The Nine Essentials instead create connections, safely, and comfortably while envisioning and developing new possibilities. 

ABM Neuromovement® lessons are performed in two primary ways.

  1. Functional Synthesis (FS): in which the Certified Practitioner, or Teacher  gives the lesson to the Client or Student who is positioned comfortably either on a padded table or seated restfully in a chair. In the case of some children, the child may be most comfortable seated in the parent’s lap, in a stroller, or even carried by the parent or guardian. 
  2. Transforming Movement Lessons (TML): lessons that enable the Student to perform gentle, unique, simple, movements by verbal instructions from the Teacher while the client remains in a comfortable position conducive to the exercise.

Lessons typically last 30-45 minutes.  For young  children it is important to bring a snack as they can get hungry.

To allow connections to take place it is recommended to do the lessons in “intensives” 4-6 lessons in consecutive days, each intensive every 1-2 weeks. A typical series of intensives would consist of 2 lessons in 1 day (at least 1 hour apart) and so forth to complete the 4-6 lessons, or 1 lesson each day for 4-6 days. In this way new and renewed neural connections can take place and form a positive trend.

Wearing comfortable clothing that allows free movement is necessary.

After the lesson low demand activities, eating well, remaining hydrated and sleeping well is necessary, in addition to being aware of changes in any aspect of your day, either sense of well-being, perception, anything  new or different in Your own self.
